Russian citizen will get the chance to send text messages to the International Space Station as part of a unique action launched by the country’s space agency to coincide with Cosmonauts Day on April 12.
Roskosmos agency together with state nuclear power corporation Rosatom and one of the country’s leading cell phone operators, Beeline, have announced a project called ‘SMS to ISS.’
The mass texting will take place April 12, when any Beeline user can send a free-of-charge message with greetings to the cosmonauts by texting 1204. Unfortunately, users of other cell phone providers will not be able to congratulate the space crew on the holiday.
“Throughout the day, the most interesting messages will also be published on the project’s official twitter page, @SMSnaMKS,” Roskosmos press-service said, as cited by Interfax.
The most original and “warm” texts will then be read out to the ISS crew during the video call session.
On April 12, 1961, legendary cosmonaut Yury Gagarin blasted into orbit aboard Soviet rocket Vostok One, becoming the first human to fly into space.
