Muscat – Etlaq Spaceport, a project started by National Aerospace Services Company (NASCOM) in 2022, has announced plans to launch Oman’s first experimental space rocket before the end of 2024.

In a statement issued following speculation about the launch in the media, Etlaq confirmed that the event scheduled in December will take place in collaboration with the National Space Programme of Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT), Civil Aviation Authority and other institutional partners. ‘We regret to inform that this launch will not be open to the public.’

MTCIT congratulated Etlaq on its advancements in the Omani space sector.

According to Etlaq,  the launch will adhere to local regulations and international safety standards, supporting the development of an experimental launch vehicle.

Etlaq further indicated that further details of this significant milestone for Oman will be shared post-launch and thanked the public for its interest in this national achievement.

In 2023, MTCIT, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning and NASCOM signed an agreement to use the space launch complex of Etlaq for multiple rocket launches, leveraging its latitude efficient location in Duqm.

Etlaq aims to be a comprehensive space launch complex with three launch pads catering to global companies for diverse orbits. The project aligns with Oman’s commitment to advancing its space capabilities.

The company’s main focus is to boost the country’s capacity in scientific research and promote global partnerships in the space sector.
