It was taken by NASA's Curiosity Mars rover on November 18, 2020, the 2,946th Martian day, or sol, of the mission.

NASA's Curiosity rover has spent 3,000 Martian days, called sols, on the Red Planet.

A day on Mars is 39 minutes and 35 seconds longer than a day on Earth, and there are 668 sols (687 Earth days) in a Martian year. Curiosity reached its 3,000th sol on Tuesday.

NASA's next rover: Perseverance is headed toward Mars

The rover landed on Mars at 10:32 p.m. PDT on Aug. 5, 2012. Its mission was to determine if Mars once had the right environmental conditions to support small life forms called microbes.
